The UK is getting its own Universal theme park. The government has officially given planning permission for Universal’s flagship theme park and resort to be built near Bedford, on the site of an old brickworks. It’s set to be Europe’s first-ever Universal Studios theme park and could change the region forever.
What’s in the Plans?

Local MP Mohammad Yasin called it a “landmark moment” that will put Bedford on the map, attracting millions of visitors from across the UK and beyond.
When Could It Open?
Although a few formalities remain, the earliest plans currently point to a 2031 opening — giving plenty of time for the creative teams to design what will likely be some of the UK’s tallest and wildest rides yet.
Why Bedford?
The park will sit on a huge former brickyard site just outside Bedford — perfect for a sprawling resort. With the government granting a Special Development Order, the project moves faster than most, bypassing parts of the usual local planning process.
